With the recent turn of events, Mexico has shown that it doesn't only have very beautiful scenery in its land. It also happens to have very beautiful people roaming all over it.
22-year-old Jimena Navarrete from Mexico was declared to be the 2010 Miss Universe, beating off a total of 84 other lovely candidates in one of the world's most prestigious beauty pageants. The 2010 edition of the pageant was held in Las Vegas, USA. Following her as first runner-up was Miss Jamaica Yendi Philipps, Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell (who was also awarded as Miss Congeniality), Miss Ukraine Anna Poslavska, and Miss Philippines Venus Raj. Fifteen candidates were selected for the swimsuit competition after a 2-week preliminary pageant. The number was then slashed to 10, who then competed in the long-gown competition, until it finally came down to 5 participants who took part in the dreaded Q&A. As a final question, she was asked what her thoughts are regarding the unsupervised access of children to the Internet. Navarrete answered by saying that the Internet is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it is a valuable tool that allows us to gain access to information, but at the same time, it poses a lot of threats that might kill our moral values. Thus, she said that it's important that parents are aware about what their kids are doing in the Web. I wasn't able to watch the pageant myself, but upon seeing her images and videos in different social networking sites, I knew instantly that we have a winner. I admit I actually have a crush on her. Mexicans should be proud. In particular, the residents of Guadalajara, where she was born, should be proud that their city produced such a beauty. You can talk about...
